You may have read my post yesterday where I was stressed, if you haven’t, you can read it HERE. After that, I went and got dressed, then told Jeff I was going for a drive to clear my head. When he asked me what was wrong all I said was “you wouldn’t understand”. That is when he jumped in and said we should go somewhere as a family, up to Skyline Drive (I had suggested that earlier in the day) I reluctantly agreed. I’m so glad we went. I got the season pass from my dad and as soon as we got up there (this is part of Shenandoah National Park, on top of the mountain) we saw this:
I’ve lived in this area my entire life, my dad would take me camping up on Skyline Drive when I was little. The only other time we have seen a bear was when I was 7 or 8. Who is ready for a funny story? My dad and I were driving along Skyline Drive and talking about what we would do if we saw a bear, he told me he would stop, get out, talk to it and then put it in the car and take it home. Me, being only 7 or 8, believed him. Can you guess what happens next? Yep, a bear walked across the road!! My dad was slowing down (as was every other car). I started panicking and saying “Don’t slow down Dad, keep going! Don’t stop!” I laugh about it now, but I was honestly scared! I’ve since gotten over that, and Jeff actually had to keep me from getting out of the van, so those pictures were taken with me in the passenger seat, leaning over Jeff.
The bear was only one of the high points of our evening. Check out these pictures at a place called Big Meadows, it’s like the “hang out” for deer in the evening. We walked, and walked, and walked some more.
Ok, this is a seriously awesome thing that happened next. As we were heading home, cars in front of us stopped and then we noticed a ton of deer on each side of the road, well Jeff got up to one that was right next to the road, and this is the resulting shot.
Of course as we were leaving, the sun was setting and I got some awesome shots of it!
The evening out with the family, fresh air, exercise, is just what I needed yesterday. I felt 100% better afterwards. I have a million more pictures, but these are by far my favorites!

Wow, I so need a vacation from this desert I live in.
At least I got to look at your pretty pictures.
I’m glad you’re feeling better.
P.S. your husband must have understood at least a little bit.
Wow! I’d love to see a bear in the wild – super cool. Sounds like just what you needed
Yeah, I don’t know what I’d do if I came across a bear, creepy! Those are cool shots though
That’s such a beautiful place! I love the view, just gorgeous! Those sunset pics were great too.
I’m so glad you got to get out and have some good quality family time together. Sometimes that really is all you need to make stress and a bad day go away!
I’m glad you all got to experience that as a family, I know you needed it. Beautiful shots!
Those black bears can be pretty scary!
