Jaxon’s Final Evaluation

Yesterday we had Jaxon’s evaluation with Infant and Toddler Connections. There was the case worker B (she has helped me from day 1 with Jeffery’s speech delay, I specifically asked for her this time) a physical therapist (apparently doctors are concerned about that) and a educational specialist (to evaluate his communication)

He is such a happy baby, the day before this evaluation he got his 1 year shots (I know, he’s over a year but I had to get his insurance straight) so he had 5 shots, and I’m sure he wasn’t feeling the greatest but he played with everyone! He was such a joy and they loved him!

The results were pretty much as I expected, he does have a speech delay…what shocked me was how delayed he really is. He scored at a 9month old level (he is almost 15months)  for expressive and receptive language. He is borderline delayed for motor skills, he scored at a 11month old level (there has to be a certain amount to be considered for services, and he was on the border for physical therapy) With his recent excels in his motor skills (standing without holding) they think he could care less about talking, he would rather work on 1 thing at a time and right now it’s walking. We also all agree that the reason he isn’t walking yet is because we are so cramped in here, and he will really start walking once we move into a bigger house, he will have room to go go go!

He will be getting speech therapy 2 times a month, it’s where they will work with him and teach me what to do with him to help him further. I feel good with how it went, his first therapy session is next Wednesday. I think he will really start getting vocal once the big kids are in school and it’s just me and him and I can give him plenty of one on one attention!

So, here’s to kiddo number 3 with a speech delay, and number 2 with it being unexplained (Jaylin had a lot of ear infections that caused her to not be able to hear properly) I am taking him to get his hearing checked out as soon as I find a place to do it that accepts his insurance.
