On any given day, you will usually find Scrappy at my feet or my hip if possible. I don’t sleep without him on the bed with me and if Jeff isn’t in bed, he’s usually right up on Jeff’s pillows beside me (Shh, don’t tell Jeff). He barks when someone knocks at the door or even if he just hears a car door shutting outside. He also knows the UPS guy and jumps around like a crazy rabbit when he hears the truck (Ok, so maybe I do too lol).

Scrappy is the most patient dog ever. Jaylin loves to just hug him, she’ll pick him up and put him on the couch or recliner with her and he’ll just lay there, Jaxon hugs him, tries to sit on him, drags him and pets him in all sorts of goofy ways and Scrappy just lets him. I had one other dog who was this good and she died about 4 or 5 years ago (I miss her, but Scrappy looks and acts soooooo much like her!).

I treat my dog like family, so I feel horrible for the dogs that are in shelters out there. When I was asked to go shopping for dog treats to give to someone or something I knew exactly where I wanted to donate to, the Page County Animal Shelter. I was asked to go get some Milkbone, Pup-Peroni, and Milo’s Kitchen dog treats.

I had never heard of Milkbone Trail Mix until I was asked to go look for them, and they must be good because I had a hard time finding them, not because they weren’t there…but because there was only 1 bag left and it had slid behind another box of Milkbone treats! I bought all of this to donate to the Page County Animal Shelter.

Last year I donated a bag of dog food to the Page County Animal Shelter and I had taken Jeffery and Jaylin with me to let them get in on the good deed. This time, I took Jaxon.

They were excited to get the treats and toys, and when they asked if I wanted the container back (I had chose to put everything in a plastic tote so they could reuse it in the future) I told them no, they sounded just as excited about the tote as they were about the treats and toys!!!

Afterwards, we went and looked at the dogs. Jaxon wanted to pet all of them! But when we come to this one little cutie I happened to look at the tag on his cage and his name was “Jackson”…so my Jaxon was playing with a doggy named Jackson

It was so nice to know the dogs there will get a little extra treat and some of them will get toys to play with, especially the one little sheppard mix puppy I fell in love with, all her siblings have been adopted and she’s the only one left

Jaxon has been able to drink from a regular cup for awhile now, but lately he has taken the cups into the living room and put them on the floor for them to either be kicked over and make a mess or the dog to drink out of it which isn’t always good for the dog depending on what is in the cup (sometimes chocolate milk). We’re a family of 6 and we currently only have one vehicle which is our mini van. It’s not the greatest on gas and it’s something I need on a regular basis to get the kids to/from school and activities. This doesn’t work out so well with Jeff working 12 hour shifts. He leaves at 5am (sometimes PM, depending on his shift rotation…he does 2 weeks of each) and comes home at 7pm (or AM depending on rotation), yes that means he has about an hour drive each way depending on the traffic and what lights he hits red (sometimes he can get there in as little as 30min) I asked him the other day how many miles he drives to/from work each day and he told me 50. That’s round trip. With gas prices going up up up up and up, we need a vehicle that gets better gas than our mini van (plus I would like to have it more often and not have to schedule the kids’ appointments around his work schedule. The qualities I am looking at in a vehicle are:

• Good Gas Mileage. We would prefer something that gets 30+ MPG
• Not Crazy Expensive. We do have 4 kids, a house payment and another car payment we need to make.
• Can Be Driven In Bad Weather. We didn’t get a lot of snow this year, but that don’t mean we won’t next year. Jeff is required to go to work no matter what the weather is.

2012 Dodge Caliber

Today I went out by myself (Jeff and the kids were home napping) and looked at some cars for Jeff. I first went to Dodge because I had seen on their site that the Dart was going to be coming out soon and was hoping it would be REALLY soon. I was quickly informed (because I asked) that they weren’t expecting the Dart until August possibly. I had seen pictures of the Dart online and it looked SO awesome! I

wanted to see it in person! Anyways, Dart aside, the nice sales lady (who I found out we attended the same high school…she was 3 years under me) showed me a nice little Caliber which got okay gas mileage and the price was good too. I was able to test drive one that had a sun roof (because Jeff loves convertibles and sunroofs lol) and it drove so smooth. The Caliber reminded me of a small SUV and a station wagon but sporty looking. It’s something I think Jeff would

like, but the issue in my head was the gas mileage of 23/27MPG. It’s about the same we were told our van would get but get no where near it. Now I know the Caliber is a LOT smaller than our van and it’s a different vehicle make but that doubt is still there. My experience at Dodge was excellent. The sales lady and manager were nice as could be. The manager was funny and joked with me about having 4 kids and we talked about this blog and many other things. We were laughing about a lot. They then decided to go into their used vehicle list and see about other vehicles they may have for us. Showed me 2…I thing they would both be great for Jeff but I’m always on the hunt for a bargain and will keep all options open right now. After I finally left Dodge, seriously, we talked a lot! Ran some numbers (found out Jeff will get a discount for working at RR Donnelley) and got a great deal. It’s still an issue with what the financing will do. That’s one reason we would like to get a new car, APR is lower, there is a warranty and you know where the car has been (used you have no idea how the other owner(s) took care of it). I drove to Hyundai.

2012 Hyundai Accent

The salesman at Hyundai was nice, told me about the car I was looking at when he walked up to me. It was a nice 2013 (their first 2013!) Elantra and told me options on it and the lower options that may be in our price range. Once I told him all of what we’re looking for he said he knew exactly the car for us. He then walked me over to a Hyundai Accent. There were only 2 left, a VERY pretty blue one (that I forgot to take a picture of!) and a nice grey one with a black interior. It looks sporty and I loved seeing the gas mileage of 30/40MPG with possibility of 47 MPG with EcoBoost. I didn’t test drive the Accent because I spent so much time at Dodge and had to be home in time for Jeff to leave for work.

2013 Dodge Dart

Overall, I know Jeff would prefer a Dodge. But we’re both disappointed they don’t make smaller cars anymore. I showed Jeff both vehicles and while I was right he did like the sunroof of the Caliber, he liked the look and the gas mileage of the Accent better. I know Dodge is a great vehicle (We owned a Caravan before we traded it in for a new van), but we have to look at the rising gas prices and what will be better in the long run for gas mileage. I wish the Dart was arriving sooner rather than later. From what I can find it looks like it will be late Summer before it is on dealer lots. Wish we could get a car for just a few months for Jeff until the Dart comes out. The starting price from what I’ve read looks like it’s good and the MPG is great too! I hope this is the first of many smaller cars Dodge comes out with. (I just talked to Jeff…and we MIGHT hold off until the Dart is released…he hasn’t looked at the pictures and articles like I have and I think he’ll like it. What’s another couple months of just 1 vehicle…right?)

I think for now I’m going to keep looking and see if I’m missing anything. I don’t want to jump into anything too fast and regret it later (like I do the van…I wish we would have waited and got what I really wanted).  I will be following #DodgeDart on Twitter for updates!

Kids love to build things. Kids love to build forts! Little Tikes has come out with a product that is now one of my kids’ favorites! TikeStix.

TikeStix can be used indoors or out and my kids have had a blast using their imaginations with them! Once they saw the box, they couldn’t wait for me to let them open it! They had to do their homework first of course and then we went outside together and I opened it for them! Once I opened the box their imaginations went right to work! I tried to build the big fort that is on the front of the box (There are directions included on how to build 3 or 4 things with the TikeStix)…I got it done, but once I turned around to get my camera, when I turned back around Jaylin was sitting in the middle of a jumbled mess haha. and told me they used the TikeStix as a lot of different things and played many different games with them…so as long as they enjoy them that’s what matters. Jeff was able to go out a few days later and build a short fort and it stayed up (although I wasn’t able to get a picture).

Ever see a product while you are pregnant and say “I can’t wait til this baby comes and is old enough for one of those”? That was me when Kolcraft come out with Wally Wonderbug!!! Being a Kolcraft Mom I got to see pictures of it before it was even released and I was so excited that the baby inside me would eventually be able to play in one!

When Wally Wonderbug arrived, I put all the parts out of the floor and Jaxon couldn’t wait to help me! Everything snapped together easy and the directions were simple to follow. It only took me about 20min if that to put it together (took that long because Jaxon kept wanting to “help”) I immediately put Justin in it and he didn’t know what to think of it! Jaxon helped him out and started playing with the toys around it (there is a

total of 8 toys, all of which do something different, have different sounds and colors) and that kept Justin occupied. After putting him in it a few times, he would accidentally hit a toy and realize it was him who did it…so he would try to do it again, eventually he figured out how to move his hands…even if it was a bit jerky and he still was unsure lol. Now he can grab toys and move them to make noise. I couldn’t be prouder of him! He seems to be learning so quick!

When I first put Justin in Wally Wonderbug I had the seat as long as it could go so his feet could touch, but that meant he could barely see over the edge of the seat which made it impossible for him to play with toys. After posting a picture on Facebook of him in it, it was suggested to me to make the seat higher, even if his feet didn’t touch he could play with the toys and that worked much better!!!!

Yes I cheated a little with the pears (only because it's hard to find good pears around here this time of year)...but I checked the ingredients to make sure it was packaged in their own juice and nothing else.

I was excited to see the Sage Spoonfuls book because honestly, I had no idea where to begin to start making baby food! There is so much information in this book it’s amazing! She talks about the differences in homemade baby food vs jar store bought, price and nutrition. She also gives information about organic food and allergies to certain foods. A section I found interesting was about Herbs and Spices, she goes into detail about how you should buy (fresh vs dried) and the nutritional value of a lot of different herbs and spices! There is also 2 pages of foods to avoid and what age you can introduce them (such as no honey until 12months, no cows milk until 12months, etc). There is also a page for each

Chocking 911 and Infant CPR. Like I said, this book is packed full of useful information!!!! Then you get down to the main part…making of baby food. She tells you the tools you will need (some of the tools are included in a Sage Spoonfuls package!) She also tells you what to look for when shopping for the food you are going to use. Other sections are Preparation, Cooking, Pureeing, Serving, Storing, Making Yummy Combinations. I’m sitting here trying to get as much information into this review as possible, but if I keep going with all the information in this book….this post will take forever to get

through!!! You will have to buy it to see everything it has to offer! She has a ton of great suggestions and information!

Recipes! A majority of this book is packed full of recipes!!! The first food I made for Justin was pears and even the recipes are packed full of information!!! She not only tells you how to prepare and puree the pear, she tells you the nutritional information such as what vitamins and minerals it has, how many oz 1 pear will make, as well as how long they will stay fresh for, how to store them (fridge for 3 days or freezer for up to 3 months!) and even how long they will stay good if you are on the go and have to take them out with you. Also, did you know pears are high in fiber? It helps if a baby is constipated (this is actually why we started with pears) and it also help if baby suffers from acid refulx! There are also ideas of what you can combine it with!

I have been mixing all of Justin’s fruit with oatmeal that’s made with his formula, just to get those extra calories in him. I had no idea it was possible to make your own baby oatmeal from rolled oats until I was skimming through all the recipes in this book! I had been buying boxed baby oatmeal and it’s not cheap!!! I went and got a big container of rolled oats and it was only $1 something and made what looks like would be 2 boxes of baby oatmeal! I was able to use the Sage Spoonfuls food processor to make it myself!

I made baby oatmeal, baby pears, and baby bananas in about 30min and it’ll last us probably about a month if not more (pears and bananas can be stored in the freezer for up to 3months!!!) I had to head to the dollar store to find some more containers because what we had from Sage Spoonfuls wasn’t enough…and I was impatient and couldn’t wait for more containers to come (I do plan on ordering more of their storage jars and trays when we have the money! I love that they stack!) These from the dollar store will work even though they are about half the size of the Sage Spoonfuls containers it’s enough for Justin right now per feeding.

Justin LOVES his baby food! It took me a bit to figure out the mixing the homemade baby oatmeal up to get it the right consistency but I think I got it now and he tears it up!!!! It’s amazing how different packaged baby oatmeal is from homemade!
